Canadian Centre for Abuse Awareness founder Ellen Campbell to be crowned Toronto’s First Fearless Woman
Women all over North America to celebrate Fearlessness this Thursday
TORONTO: Ellen Campbell, President, CEO, and Founder of the Canadian Centre for Abuse Awareness (CCAA), is to receive the inaugural Toronto Fearless Woman Award, helping to lead the way in North America’s Fearless Revolution.
The award is part of Canada’s First Annual Fearless Women’s Day, happening this Thursday, August 26th, at The Richmond, 477 Richmond Street West, Suite 104, Toronto, from 7pm to 10pm. On this date, Fearless Women’s Day events will happen simultaneously in Calgary and major US cities to honor women who fearlessly blazed the trail before us and women who are creating major change in the world now.
Fearless Women’s Day and the Fearless Revolution sprung from celebrity photographer Mary Ann Halpin’s latest portrait book entitled, Fearless Women: Fearless Wisdom. The book features empowering photographs of 40 sword bearing women entrepreneurs, along with their individual story of triumph and fearlessness.
“ We’re so excited to celebrate the courage of Canadian women and are extremely proud to honour Ellen as our first Fearless Women Award recipient,” says Darla Campbell, Executive Managing Director of eWomenNetwork and event co-oordinator “Ellen has overcome so much in her life and continues to make an invaluable contribution to helping to raise awareness of Abuse with CCAA. Ellen is undoubtedly a fearless woman.”
Toronto’s Fearless Women’s Day event will share Ellen’s personal story of abuse, survival and triumph as well as feature inspiring speakers such as Michelle Peavy, a professional singer and entrepreneur, who is also the Canadian representative featured in Fearless Women, Fearless Wisdom; Laura Robinson , the co-inventor of Balderdash, featured in earlier Fearless Women’s books, and Tracey Erin Smith – award winning performer and writer of The Burning Bush!.
The event will raise funds for the National Council of Women of Canada, a non-profit organization representing women’s organizations across the country and the eWomenNetwork Foundation.

Ellen Campbell’s Fearless Story
Ellen is a survivor of childhood sexual abuse. At an early age, she had to make a choice to either live in fear or claim her voice. Like most survivors, Ellen hid her shame and pain well but the impact of her abuse took its toll. Despite the fear that is typical of abuse, Ellen chose to fight back so that others would not have to endure her hardships.
In 1993, Ellen created the Canadian Centre for Abuse Awareness which has grown from just a concept to a national charity serving over 130 agencies dealing with abuse as well as offering up to 21 programs. This equates to about 200,000 people a year that are helped, either directly or indirectly. Ellen’s deep faith and compassion for others have been the driving force in overcoming fears that torment so many in our society and her approach to fearless living is a tremendous source of inspiration to both women and men whose lives have been made fearful by the abuse they have suffered.
In Ellen’s words, “Doing it afraid” was how it had to be done.
